RECAP

The cozbys put on a masterclass in puck possession, dismantling Team8s in a 5-0 shutout that felt one-sided from the opening draw. The narrative of this game was defined by a relentless offensive cycle; The cozbys suffocated their opponents, racking up a massive 804 seconds of time on attack compared to just 324 for Team8s. There wasn’t a single moment where the momentum swung back the other way, as The cozbys used a heavy forecheck to keep the puck pinned in the offensive zone for the majority of the contest. On the blue line, mashotpa was the primary anchor for The cozbys, finishing with a +5 rating and an assist while effectively killing transitions with 5 takeaways. His 90 defensive rating reflected a near-perfect performance in gap control. For Team8s, the scoreline could have been significantly worse if not for SmokeGrenadiers6 in net, who faced a constant barrage and made 16 saves on 21 shots. Despite the defensive struggles of the team, jnoquarterj managed a 100 defensive rating and 5 takeaways of his own, though his 25% success rate in the faceoff circle meant Team8s were rarely starting with the puck. The deciding factor was a combination of clinical possession and a catastrophic turnover margin for Team8s. Sejje struggled to find space all night, losing the puck 15 times, which repeatedly gifted The cozbys fresh opportunities to reset their cycle. When you combine those giveaways with a 21 to 11 shot differential and a total lack of zone time, it’s impossible to generate offense. The cozbys simply played keep-away for 60 minutes, using their superior puck movement (119 pass attempts) to wear down the Team8s defense until they found the back of the net five times.
