RECAP

The Flamingos secured a gritty 2-1 overtime victory in a defensive battle where goals were incredibly hard to come by. The narrative of the game was defined by the Flamingos' ability to sustain pressure, maintaining a significant advantage in time on attack with 854 seconds compared to the Mighty Deks' 611. While See dub 21 helped the Deks stay competitive by winning 13 of 24 faceoffs, the game remained a stalemate through regulation as both defensive units refused to break. The tension finally snapped in the extra period when JNoQuarterJ buried the winner to end the night. JNoQuarterJ was the offensive engine for the Flamingos, involved in both of his team's goals to finish with 1 goal and 1 assist. He was frequently set up by hockeymike2344, who tallied 2 assists, while Dirbykach13 provided the other goal and a heavy net-front presence with 4 deflections. For the Mighty Deks, Bcrippsx31 was heroic in net, keeping his team alive by stopping 19 of 21 shots for a .905 save percentage. On the blue line, IAALLDAY520 put on a defensive clinic for the Deks, recording 11 takeaways to consistently strip Flamingos' attackers of the puck. The deciding factor in this contest was the massive disparity in shot volume and possession control. The Flamingos outshot the Deks 21-11, a direct result of their ability to force turnovers and cycle effectively. While the Deks were disciplined on the penalty kill, they were buried in their own zone for too long, largely due to 30 giveaways from xDemon12x that killed any hope of a transition game. In a matchup this tight, the Flamingos' 243-second advantage in time on attack eventually translated into the high-quality look they needed to end it in overtime.
