RECAP

Bullet Hockey Club escaped with a 4-3 overtime victory in a contest where they were largely pinned in their own zone for long stretches. Degeneration X dictated the pace for most of the night, racking up a massive 12:30 of time on attack compared to Bullet’s 7:04. Despite the territorial disadvantage, Bullet remained lethal on the counter-attack and stayed patient through DX's heavy possession game. The game reached its climax in the extra frame when Buckley0306 buried the game-winner, capping off a resilient performance by the away side. The night belonged to l_Willis_97_l, who put on a clinical finishing display for Bullet Hockey Club. Willis secured a hat trick on just 5 shots, including a critical shorthanded goal that punished a DX turnover at the blue line. For Degeneration X, bobaloooo_ was the primary engine of the offense, figuring into every goal with 1 goal and 2 assists. While m4ckzz88 dominated the dot with 15 faceoff wins to help DX maintain puck control, they struggled to beat JHubbs92 when it mattered most; the Bullet netminder turned aside 14 of 17 shots to keep his team within striking distance. Efficiency and special teams were the ultimate deciders in this matchup. While Degeneration X controlled the flow and won the shot battle 16-15, Bullet Hockey Club won the special teams battle decisively. Bullet converted on 1 of their 2 power play opportunities and added a shorthanded marker, effectively creating a 2-goal swing through non-even strength situations. Buckley0306’s 44% faceoff percentage meant Bullet was often chasing the play, but his ability to find the net on the power play and again in overtime proved that clinical finishing can overcome a deficit in time on attack.
